MUMBAI, Oct 27: The Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has submitted its report on the development of Sindhudurg district as a tourism destination to State Revenue Minister Narayan Rane. Rane is also the district's guardian minister.The report has estimated a total expenditure of Rs 364 crore, of which Rs 90 crore will have to be spent on basic amenities. Funds for roads, water and power will be provided by the respective state government departments. Rane said that the project will be helped by the Central Government as well.
TCS also conducted market surveys in Goa and Diu in order to forecast the tourist demand. The forecast has indicated about 12,000 tourists in 1999, which would increase to 4,45,000 by 2010.
Rane said that the project would generate employment opportunities for the locals and that it would contribute to the State revenue by 21 per cent. The focus of the project is on Mithbav, Sawantwadi, Vegurla, Malvan, Sindhudurg, Tarkarli, Devbaug, Kudal, Patradevi and Kharepatan.
