Mahatma memorial to grace Washington park
Mahatma Gandhi never visited the United States, much less Washington DC, but the city will soon be imbued with the spirit of the Great Soul. President Clinton signed on Monday a bill cleared by the Congress approving construction of a memorial for Mahatma Gandhi.

Boat mishap in Assam kills 40
At least forty persons, mostly young children are feared dead in a tragic boat mishap on the Brahmaputra in the heart of Guwahati early Tuesday morning. The accident took place when two boats, both carrying Bihari pilgrims who had gone to take the holy dip in the Brahmaputra on the occasion of Chhat Puja, collided about 50 metres from the Sukleswar ghat at around 5:30 a.m.

Pak bid to capture Siachen post foiled
Pakistani troops suffered at least six casualties when Indian troops repulsed their attempt to capture a northern post at the Siachen glacier on Tuesday morning. This is the second unsuccessful attempt by Pakistani troops to capture Indian post in Siachen glacier in the last eight days.
