Palestinians back Wye river deal with Israel
The Palestinian leadership has approved the Wye river land-for-peace deal with Israel, an official statement said. The accord signed last Friday by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu provides for an Israeli withdrawal from another 13 per cent of the West Bank in return for stronger security guarantees from the Palestinian side.

Storm kills 127 in Nicaragua & Honduras
Floodwaters unleashed by tropical storm Mitch rose quickly across Honduras and Nicaragua, trapping tens of thousands of people with little food or water and raising the number of confirmed dead to 127.

Iraq stops UN team's work
Iraq today said it was breaking off all cooperation with the UN Special Commission (UNSCOM) charged with disarming Iraq with immediate effect, a statement from the Iraqi leadership said.
