Kirtanes advance after scare
For Saurav Panja and Anand Radhakrishnan, the dream was too close, yet too far. It took longer to settle down into one's seat at the Jawahar Stadium than it took the unseeded duo to clinch the first set 6-1 from top-seeded Kirtane cousins on the opening day of the Satellite Masters International Tennis tournament here today.

Shruti shocks Thai seed to enter quarter-finals
Shruti Dhawan, the 16-year-old former DHAITA trainee, got her name on the WTA computer, after she upset third-seed Montika Anuchan of Thailand 6-2, 6-4 to enter the quarter-finals of the Central Bank-ITF Women's Circuit (Masters) tennis tournament at the DTA courts here today.

Binny plans national academy for quickies
In south India, speed is the catchword. The Britannia Roger Binny Academy (BRBA) for pace bowlers is set to become the second national training centre for quickies. Started this July, and presently restricted to young students from Bangalore, the academy will expand next year to tap promising juniors from all parts of the country.
