MUMBAI, Nov 7: President K R Narayanan has taken note of the row over the resignation of Justices Y S Jahagirdar and A Y Sakhare of the Bombay High Court, who quit the posts for personal reasons on October 17.
``I have received your letter of October 20, 1998, which I have perused. The letter has been forwarded to the Department of Justice for appropriate action,'' Narayanan informed Leader of Opposition Chhagan Bhujbal in a written communication.
Bhujbal had urged the President to constitute an inquiry into the episode, which was termed as a big blow to the judiciary by the legal luminaries.The senior Congress leader had submitted to the President that the resignation of Jahagirdar was against the backdrop of the on-going hearing of a public interest litigation against the development of property by Girish Vyas, son-in-law of Chief Minister Manohar Joshi. Jahagirdar was a member of the Division Bench along with Chief Justice M B Shah.
Bhujbal felt that it was a matter of detailed investigation sinceJahagirdar had tendered the resignation just before the case was scheduled for final hearing on November 4. ``What made Jahagirdar to quit before November 4 is also a matter of detailed investigation,'' Bhujbal had pointed out.
However, later, Jahagirdar had clarified that he resigned from the post for extremely personal reasons. ``My resignation was not even remotely linked to the on-going case involving the son-in-law of the chief minister. It was just another case,'' Jahagirdar had told The Indian Express.
