Pak oppn smells a rat in easing of sanctions

Shahid Ahmed Khan

ISLAMABAD, Nov 8: Pakistani opposition has termed the partial lifting of economic sanctions by the US as a "smokescreen" for enabling the Nawaz Sharif government to accept Washington's demands on nuclear issues.

A spokesperson of the main opposition Pakistan People's Party said the US move was a "smokescreen and face-saving device for Sharif to capitulate before international pressure and accept Washington's demands on various nuclear issues''. The government will be forced to sign the CTBT, Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty and accept ceiling on production of fissile material even before the conclusion of the Geneva talks.
