NEW DELHI, NOV 13: Fourth seed Benjamin Xavier upset second seed Sunil Kumar to set up a title clash with third seed Anant Sitaram in the boys under-16 section of the AITA Open Junior Ranking Tennis Tournament today.
Benjamin (Maharashtra) came from a set down to beat the second seed from Chandigarh 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Sitaram (AP) downed fifth seed Harshit Sharma (West Bengal) 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals at the DTA courts here.
Incidentally, Benjamin had lost to Sunil Kumar in the final of the just concluded JS Pereira National Ranking Tournament in Mumbai.
In girls (under-16), top seed T Yamini (Tamil Nadu), the only remaining seed, swept aside Sasha Abraham (AP) 6-3, 6-1. She will meet unseeded Y Lakshmi Reddy (AP), a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 winner over Samrita Sekar (TN), in the final tomorrow.
In the boys (under-14) section, top-seed and local favourite Nishank Mishra downed Arun Prakash 6-2, 6-1 to move into a summit clash with fourth seed Rohan Gajjar (Mah), who struggled initially before beating fifthseed Nikhil V Murali (Del) 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
In the girls mini juniors, seventh-seed Lata Asudani (Mah) upset sixth seed Preeti Rao (TN) 6-1, 6-3 to move into the final against second-seeded statemate Isha Lakhani (Mah), a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Radha Devendrappa (Kar).
