After innumerable rounds of consultations among the two Left parties and other regional and national parties, the CPI today said the formation of the front would get a "real impetus" after the elections. With the Left parties confident that the BJP will fare poorly in the coming assembly polls in four states, the CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan told journalists that the process of realignment of political parties would take place soon after the poll results were known.

Justifying the decision of the Left to extend support to a possible Congress-led government, Bardhan said at this juncture the threat to Indian plurality called for a joint effort by all secular parties against communal forces.

December six would be observed as "Protest Day" against the demolition of the Babri Masjid six years ago. He hoped all secular forces and secularparties would join the protest.

Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee had also decided to observe the day as "black day", to mark here protest, but the CPI was noncommittal. "Why don't you ask her", he countered, adding that "Mamata's only mission is to fight the Left".

The CPI has also accused the BJP of using criminal gangs in Bihar to attack communist leaders. Noting that the attacks has accelerated in recent days, Bardhan said "criminals backed by the BJP had attacked the Bihar state committee member Chandreswari Prasad Singh in Begusarai district yesterday. The the driver of his jeep, also a communist party worker, was killed. "This is the third attempt on the life of Chandreswari by a gang backed by the BJP," he said.

Bardhan said he has Rabri Devi's assurance to bring those involved to book.
