MV Nagesh triumphs

BANGALORE: MV Nagesh from Karnataka won a silver medal at the second World Cup bodybuilding championship 1998 which concluded on November 11 at Athens, Greece, according to a message by the National Amateur Body Building Federation here. Nagesh has received the medals besides $ 2000 as prize money.

Earlier, Nagaesh had won the Dakshina Bharath Shree and Dasara Shree title before he was selected for the World Championship.

BSF score

JALANDHAR: Border Security Force won the 15th Indian Oil Surjit hockey tournament beating Punjab and Sind Bank 2-1 in the well-contested title clash here this evening. Three-time finalists in 1986, 1988 and 1989, BSF etched their name on the coveted trophy for the first time beating star-studded bankmen who were runners-up last year in this tournament.

Title for CV Rao

New Delhi: CV Rao's team, Visakhapatnam, represented by SK Iyengar, KV Krishnamurthy, Debashis Roy, Pritish Kushari and CV Rao, annexed the Ruia Gold trophy bydefeating Sunil Machhar's team, Mumbai by a narrow four International Match Points (141-137) in an exciting final of the team event in the national bridge championship today.

Director resigns

CHENNAI: Project director for the preparation of Indian men's football team for the Bangkok Asian Games, CR Visswanathan, has resigned from his post, protesting over the manner in which the team was selected without ``consulting'' him. He ausbmitted his resignation to KN Mour, secretary of the AIFF.

Benjamin loses

New Delhi: Third seed Anant Sitaram of Andhra Pradesh humbled fourth seed Benjamin Xavier (Maharashtra) to lift the u-16 title in the AITA open sub/mini junior tennis tournament here today. Anant Sitaram outplayed Xavier 6-3 6-2 in a one-sided final.
