PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, Nov 18: Communist Party of India (CPI) today alleged that senior scientist Dr T Jayaraman of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Chennai was being hounded out of his job for opposing nuclear weaponisation in India.
``This is typical of the intolerance that characterises the BJP Government and the establishments under it,'' CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said in a statement here.
He said Dr Jayaraman had joined 75 other scientists in a statement opposing the nuclear tests and had written an article opposing nuclear weaponisation and deployment in India.
Demanding that the ``victimisation'' of scientists, for holding views contrary to those of the Government, should be stopped, Bardhan said Dr Jayaraman should be allowed to continue in his post ``without any blemish attached to him''.
