India to meet Pak in semis

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

DUBAI, JAN 6: India has set up a semifinal clash with arch-rivals Pakistan tomorrow after crushing UAE juniors in a one sided match-- 15-9, 15-4, 15-1 in the fourth Rashid International Volleyball Championships here last night.

India, who finished as number two in pool `A' after losing their opener against fancied Ukraine, the pool toppers, setup a rematch of last year's semifinal. Ukraine won all their matches in the pool and will be major hurdle for the defending champions India.

Skipper Surjit Singh played well and was declared the Man-of-the-Match.

The Indians who are now combining well took it little easy in the first set and the enterprising UAE juniors notched up nine points almost getting into double digits.

``We are now playing very well and every player is playing to his potential,'' chief coach G Sreedharan said. ``In the first match, against Ukraine, we had come here without taking any rest after the Nationals in Calcutta. But the boys have got over that now and are playing superbgame.'' The UAE junior's challenge petered out subsequently as they lost the match scoring only four and one points.
