MADURAI, JAN 16: A petrol bomb was hurled at the screen of a cinema hall here showing the film Fire.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Venkataraman, one Solai Ramakrishnan threw the petrol bomb during the show. However, the explosion was minor and no damage was reported. The accused, who was taken into custody, claimed to be city vice-president of the Hindu Munnani. His accomplice, also said to be a Hindu Munnani activist, is absconding.
Venkataraman said there was bandobast outside the theatre following protests against the film's screening. However, Ramakrishnan managed to sneak into the theatre with petrol. The show, however, resumed after a short break.Security was beefed up in the area following the incident. Thilagar Thidal police are investigating.
