Indo Rama duped of Rs 1.46 crore

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, JAN 20: Indo Rama Synthetics Limited, polyester yarn manufacturers, have been duped of over Rs 1.46 crore by a Mumbai-based group of polyester purchasers.

The rural police have launched an enquiry into the cheating case upon a complaint lodged by Indo Rama general manager Govind Singh Sardar Harbans Singh Sahani after the cheques advanced by the purchasers to the company were returned by the bank owing to lack of sufficient balance.

Although the company approached the police with a cheating complaint, its authorities were not inclined to provide information about the Mumbai-based group that allegedly played the trick.

In their daily press brief issued here this evening, the rural police said Sahani stated in his complaint yesterday that the group purchased consignments of polyester yarn at different intervals between December 1997 and September 1998, for which the bills ran up to Rs 1,46,23,071 and were forwarded to the purchasers on different occasions.

The purchasers issued cheques to thecompany against the bills, which were returned by the bank recently.

Meanwhile, an offence of cheating, conspiracy to cheat and common motive has been registered against the suspected offenders by the Bori police. Station officer Rajendra Upadhyaya is investigating.
