Case filed against bottling company

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Jan 20: The Makarpura police on Wednesday registered a case against the Hindustan Coca Cola Bottling Northwest Private Limited at Matar in Kheda district for allegedly supplying sub-standard soft drinks.

Police said the case was registered following a complaint by Yogesh Shah, 37, resident of Dabhoiya Pol, who complained of an allergic reaction after consuming a 500 ml bottle of Thums Up about six months ago.

Police sub-inspector S L Bhatt, investigating the case, sent the bottle to Forensic Science Laboratory, Ahmedabad. The report of the FSL which reached here earlier in the month of December held that the soft drink had hydro-chloric acid contents which could be harmful to the human body.

Bhatt then investigated the case and learnt that Tushar Traders, the provision store at Sharad Nagar Shopping Centre, Tarsali, from the complainant Shah had purchased the Thums Up bottles had got the stock from Matar-based company. He then registered an offence under Section 273, 336, 337 and 114 IPC against the managers of the company. He would soon be interrogating the accused, an official spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the police have also sent a bottle of Coca Cola to FSL as Meetuben Bedi, resident Moti Nagar, Tarsali had also lodged a complaint against its quality recently.

The spokesman said that girl had bought two bottles of Coca Cola and consumed one of them on December 17 following which she too had developed several physical ailments.

While no official spokesman of the company could be contacted, police sources say the company suspects duplication of their products.
