FCI Inter-Zonal cricket from January 24

CHANDIGARH, Jan 20: The 29th Food Corporation of India Inter-Zonal cricket tournament will be held here from January 24 to 30. Six teams will vie for top honours in the tournament which will also have a fair sprinkling of past and present domestic stars thrown in.

Amarjit Kaypee, Akash Malhotra, Pankaj Thakur, Kamaljit Singh, Arun Sharma, A W Zaidi and Debang Gandhe will be the ones who would be expected to share the workload for their respective teams, though doubts still persist over the availability of Zaidi and Gandhe due to their preoccupation with Deodhar Trophy.

Defending champions East Zone will lead the charge in the 40-overs-a-side match round-robin format, according to D P Reddy, Senior Regional Manager, FCI. He further said that all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the tournament have been completed.

Matches will be played in four different venues of the City -- Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, Sector 26 Police Lines, Gursagar ground and PCA Stadium (S.A.S. Nagar). The tournament is being held under the auspices of Regional Sports Promotion Committee of Punjab region.

The FCI Chairman N Narsimhan Rao will inaugurate the tournament on January 24 at PCA Stadium while S S Dawra, Managing Director will be the chief guest during the closing ceremony on January 30. The star-studded North Zone side will be led by Akash Malhotra.

January 24: North vs South (PCA Stadium), North-East vs West (Police Lines), East vs Headquarters (Cricket Stadium); January 25: South vs West (PCA Stadium); Headquarters vs North-East (Cricket Stadium); January 26: East vs North-East (Police Lines), North vs West (Cricket Stadium); January 27: East vs South (Gursagar), North vs Headquarters (Cricket Stadium); January 28: Headquarters vs South (Cricket Stadium), East vs West (Gursagar), North vs North-East (Police Lines); January 29: North-East vs South (Cricket Stadium), Headquarters vs West (PCA Stadium); January 30: North vs East (PCA Stadium).
