Harmalkar's all-round show helps Worli to victory

MUMBAI, JAN 24: A brilliant all-round performance by Sudhakar Harmalkar helped Worli Sports to beat Dadar Parsee Zorastrian by 102 runs and enter the second-round of the Padmakar Talim Shield cricket tournament (45 overs), sponsored by Bank of India, at Matunga, today.

Harmalkar, after scoring a quick unbeaten 30 in his side's total of 183, went on to capture five wickets to bundled out their opponents for 81 runs. His final figres were 8-3-15-5.

The day's batting honour went to Chandrakant Pandit who cracked 143 and was involved in two century partnerships. It enabled hosts MIG Cricket Club post 341 for six against Victory on their homeground at Bandra. Pandit's knock was studded with three sixes and 13 hits to the ropes and came off just 91 balls.

Nigam wins second title

AmitNigam won his second title of the season when he bagged the Republic Day Golf Tournament over 36 holes at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club , Chembur.

Nigam had shot a one under 69 on Saturday, had a poor round of 10-over 80 on Sunday, but the first day's cushion of four strokes was adequate to net him the title.

Runner-up Rohit Goyal, who carded a 79 on Sunday, finished four strokes behind on 153.

Nohar Nath won the nett prize edging out Ajay Patel on the basis of better display over the last 18 holes when he shot a gross 76, which was also the best round of the day. Both had a nett 142 over 136 holes.Final Position (36 holes, par 140): 149 Amit Nigam (69, 80); 153 Rohit Goyal (74, 79); Nohar Nath (80,76); Ajay Patel (80, 78); Ratan Bali (80, 82)

Companeroes win

Companeros defeated Fr Agnel B 2-1 in the senior Don Bosco Challenge Cup organized by Don Bosco Youth Centre and played at the Technical Ground, Kurla.

Vikram D'Souza drew the first blood for the winners in 16 minute through apenalty. Agnel equalised through Rawlino D'Souza, but Cosmos Vaz sealed the fate for Companeros.
