NEW DELHI: Second seed B Bhaskar (Karnataka) crushedRupesh Shah (Gujarat) 576-292 to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the National billiards championship today. On a day of low-scoring matches, Bhaskar scored a single century break of 116 on his 3rd visit, while his other big breaks were of 58 and 88 only.
Veteran Arvind Savoor (Karnataka) scored a narrow 567-519 win over AB Ashok Kumar (TN) in a tense Group `H' match. Maharashtra's Arun Aggarwal outplayed Aditya Goneka (Rajasthan) 538-391.
Kerala in semis
PERINTHALMANNA: For Minnows Pondicherry, it was an unforgettable evening. A spectacular display of close-to-net onslaughts by their Keralite duo T Raja and J Ramesh, helped them outplay holders Karnataka to make their maiden entry into the boys semi-finals of the National Junior Volleyball Chammpionship today. They will meet hosts Kerala in the semifinals.
Kerala girls also reached the semi-finals, beating Tamil Nadu 25-21 25-22 25-17. In the first semifinals, Kerala will meet West Bengal while AP will take on UP in the other.
Seuli'streble
BANGALORE: Seuli Sadhukan of West Bengal had her sights set firmly on the National record. She got two of them in the 0.22 open sight standard rifle three position 50 metres event for women and junior women categories as the National shooting championships (national) concluded here today. Seuli finished with an individual haul of three gold and one silver.
Baba Saheb Dhal, Mangesh Maney and Ranjith Goud made it 1-2-3 for Maharashtra in sub-junior boys open sight air rifle 10 metres, while Prachi Dahisarkar and Vaishali Sathe were 1-2 in girls.
