ONGC Mahila Samiti organises Anand Mela '99

SURAT, Jan 24: B C Bora, CMD, ONGC inaugurated the Anand Mela '99 on January 23 at the ONGC sports pavilion here. The mela, organised by ONGC Mahila Samiti, is aimed at raising funds for community development activities of ONGC. The mela offered food as well as game stalls besides a on-the-spot lucky draw. While the proceeds of the mela will go for developmental activities, the Samiti extends material and financial aid to local welfare organisation like Arpan and Nari Suraksha Kendra.

Seminar: A Seminar on alternative sources of energy was conducted by ONGC and GEDA during the Oil Conservation Fortnight. Nearly 300 vehicles were issued PUC certificate during a drive to check emissions. Energy audits of rigs and production installation were also carried out at Padra and Cambay work centres during the fortnight.

Training programme: A training programme on `Operation and Maintenance of Cummins Diesel Engines' was conducted at ONGC, Ankleshwar project. G L Goyal, Head of RTIMD/STI welcomed chief guest Col K B Vohra, Group General Manager (Project), who inaugurated the programme. M/S Cummins Diesel Sales and Service Private Limited conducted the programme. The main feature/highlight of the training was the visit to a drill site to make the trainees aware of the site problems and to impart practical training.

Chess tournament: ONGC has co-sponsored the II Fide Rated Chess Tournament in Gujarat organised by the Baroda Chess Academy under the auspices of Gujarat State Chess Association and the All-India Chess Federation. N Lal, Executive Director, ONGC, WRBC inaugurated the tournament on January 24th, while C H V Rao, Deputy General Manager (SGZ), Bank of Baroda was the chief guest. Two rounds of matches will be played from January 25 to 29. Nalin Bhatt, Chairman, GEB will give away prizes to winners on January 30.

Billiards: The Officers' Club has arranged a billiards sports facility in its premises for its members. The facility will be available on all days except Thursdays from 6.30 to 8.30 pm and on holidays up to 9.30 pm. The club is offering free coaching facility till January 31.
