Deputy minister to unfurl Tricolour at Ahwa

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Jan 24: As part of the Republic Day celebrations, Deputy Minister for Industries and Tourism Khoda Patel will unfurl the Tricolor at the Police Parade Ground at Ahwa, the district headquarters of the Dangs, on Tuesday. Even as the strife torn district was returning to normalcy, elaborate arrangements were being made by the district administration for the event, an official release issued said.

While the flag-hoisting ceremony is slated for 9 am on Tuesday, a number of programmes will be held on the day. Students from different schools of the district will take part in a march at 7.30 am, which after passing through all the main thoroughfares of Ahwa town will conclude at the Police Parade Ground.

The flag-hoisting ceremony will be followed by a parade and a colourful cultural programme at the same venue. The district information department has organised a film show later in the evening at Rang Upavan in Ahwa.

In a bid to ensure that all celebrations passed off peacefully, the additional district magistrate has issued prohibitory orders banning the use of weapons, inflammable substances, burning of effigies, making inflammatory speeches and slogan shouting. The order, which attract fine or imprisonment or both for offenders, came into effect from Saturday and will remain in force until February 3.

Meanwhile, consultations of in-charge secretary (Dangs) S K Nanda with leaders of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Hindu Jagran Manch as well as with Christian missionaries were cordial, a release issued here said.

Nanda, along with District Collector J P Gupta held separate meetings with the leaders at the circuit house. The leaders assured Nanda that they would work towards maintaining peace in the district, the release added.

While District Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Pradip Patil and Hindu Jagran Manch president Janu Pawar represented one party to the Dangs incidents, Sister Carmen of the Deep Darshan School and Father C M Raphael too met the officials.
