SURAT, Jan 25: The city Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Monday escorted the three accused arrested in connection with the murder of municipal councillor Nita Satbhaya to Ahmedabad for a lie-detector test.
Incidentally, the police remand of two of the accused -- Chandrakant Kahar and Naresh Patel alias Naresh Naphtha -- ends on Monday evening. In most probability, the police will produce them in a court in Ahmedabad, where an extended remand period will be sought. The third accused Kallu Dagga is on police remand until Wednesday.
Meanwhile, there have not been any details on the ongoing interrogations of the two except that names provided by Chandrakant Kahar alias C K and Naresh Patel alias Naresh naphtha which extend outside the state. A team of DCB officials have already been to Mumbai last week although there was no breakthrough in the case. The police are likely to bring the three back to the city after the polygraph test on Wednesday.
Top police officials, while maintaining that the progress of interrogations ``was in the right direction'', have hinted at the name of notorious criminal Farooq Munshi to be involved in the murder. Farooq is at large for almost a year now after he jumped police custody while being escorted to the Vadodara jail by a team of police officials.
