Central team rushes to Orissa
The Union Government on Wednesday moved swiftly as a high-powered team of Defence Minister George Fernandes, Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi and Steel and Mines Minister Naveen Patnaik rushed to Orissa for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
Loan blockade to figure in Indo-US talks
As the United States and India seek to ``harmonise'' their views on security matters in the eighth round of talks beginning this weekend, one discordant note threatens to embitter a dialogue that is otherwise proceeding apace: Washington's continued blockade of World Bank loans, about $ 1.7 billion of which is in the pipeline for India this year.
Clamour for Rabri's sack after Dalits massacre
The BJP on Wednesday demanded immediate dismissal of the Rabri Devi Government in Bihar and gave a call for a general strike on February 2, in protest against the massacre in Jehanabad district and shooting crime graph in the state.
