Lift sanctions early
Indian and US delegations have come out of an unusually long, three-day session of non-proliferation talks with the usual assurances. Like the previous ones, these were "positive, constructive and productive'' and are to be followed by more of the same in work groups and at delegation level spread over the next six months.

Chaos within
Parliamentary affairs minister Madan Lal Khurana's resignation from the council of ministers and the BJP national executive may be just a straw in the wind but in these days of uncertainty, every political development is significant. BJP President Kushabhau Thakre may dismiss the resignation as politically irrelevant and bravely claim that it will not affect his party, but he is fooling no one.

The right to speak
Yet another incident of violence against Christians: this time the killings were those of Graham Stewart Staines, who worked among lepers in Orissa for the last 36 years, and his two young sons. Once again the Prime Minister and Home Minister have condemned the murders. This is a familiar pattern.
