US Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott opened talks with Pakistani Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmad on security and nuclear non-proliferation in South Asia, officials said. The two sides are also expected to discuss conflict in Afghanistan, where Pakistan supports the Taliban militia.
