Media world loses another doyen
Industrialist and media baron Ashok Kumar Jain died at Cleveland in the US on Thursday following complications arising from a heart transplant surgery. Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan expressed their profound grief over Jain's death.

Bukhari protests visa for Rushdie
External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh has cleared the visa for Indian-born British author Salman Rushdie to visit India for the first time since the 1980s when his book The Satanic Verses was banned by the then Congress regime. However, the decision has drawn a sharp reaction from the Naib Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari.

Minority attacks -- Panel report indicts Gujarat
The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has, in its final report sent to the Gujarat Government, expressed serious concern over the recent attacks on Christians and their institutions in the Dangs and elsewhere in South Gujarat and directed the government to ensure safety of the minority community in the State.
