Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's decision to make a historic bus trip to Lahore shows that he is interested in "settling outstanding issues" and Pakistan will "welcome him with full esteem and respect", Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday.

Japan may ease sanctions on India
Japan plans to ease its anti-nuclear sanctions on India by resuming financing through bodies such as the International Monetary Fund. Japan had imposed sanctions on both India and Pakistan after the two countries carried out nuclear tests in May last year.

Bukhari protests visa for Rushdie
External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh has cleared the visa for Indian-born British author Salman Rushdie to visit India for the first time since the 1980s when his book The Satanic Verses was banned by the then Congress regime. However, the decision has drawn a sharp reaction from the Naib Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari.
