SURAT, Feb 14: About 10 armed bandits of the dreaded Chaddi Banian Dhari struck at a house in the Labour Colony of Rama Paper Mills in Barbodhan village of Olpad taluka and besides injuring six people, decamped with valuables during the early hours of Sunday.According to information, a group of workers of the paper mill were watching a movie in one Tapan Sachinder Chakravati's house, located in Labour Colony, when about 10 armed bandits -- all aged between 25 and 30 and speaking a language that was a mixture of Gujarati and Hindi -- forcibly entered the house at around 1.30 am by breaking open the door with a boulder.
Chakravarti, who lodged a complaint, said that the group armed with lathis, pipes and sickles after entering the house, smashed the television and VCR set, beat up six people and decamped with cash and valuables.
According to the district control room, the exact amount of cash and valuables looted could not be ascertained as Chakravarti did not own the house.
The control room added that the special report on the loot, which had details like the nature of injuries sustained by the victims, the amount looted and other details, was not available as the reader branch (RB) was closed on Sunday.
The FIR lodged in the police station, however, based on the gangsters' modus operandi said that they were members of the Chaddi Banian Dhari gang. The Olpad police have registered a case under sections 395 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating.
