Lahore milestone
Busing to Pakistan has turned out to be more useful than anyone could have anticipated in the circumstances. Atal Behari Vajpayee and Nawaz Sharif seized every opportunity provided by an impromptu visit to underscore the new thinking at the highest political levels.

Not quite cricket
Spare a thought for the hapless Indian cricket fan. Indeed, as he uncomprehendingly frowned over the eerie sight of emptied stands at Calcutta's Eden Gardens with the Pakistani speedsters charging in at India's quivering last pair, that one image perhaps telescoped all that ails the Indian cricketing establishment.

Pragmatism must guide Indo-Pak talks
Prime Minister Atal Behari Va-jpayee's visit to Pakistan could start a new era in resolving the vexed security issues. But this will happen only if both sides show the will and tenacity to break free from fixed notions, which have shaped public opinion on both sides over the years.
