Agarkar, Kambli submit fitness certificates

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
MUMBAI, Feb 22: Injured Mumbai stars Vinod Kambli and Ajit Agarkar today submitted fitness certificates to the Indian cricket board (BCCI) well in time before the selection committee meeting which has been convened here on February 28 to prune the World Cup list of probables to 19.

Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) joint secretary Prof. Ratnakar Shetty told PTI today that the two players have produced medical certificates from their respective doctors.

The certificate submitted by flamboyant left-hander Kambli, as given by a Nanavati Hospital doctor, said that he was examined and was found to have `adequate strength to do sporting activities'.

Agarkar has given a certificate which said the wiry speedster would be hundred per cent fit in two weeks' time, indicating he would be fit enough for consideration to play in next month's Triangular Series at home featuring hosts India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

He has been out of action because of a shin fracture detected in December. But the board faces a bigdilemma over Kambli. The southpaw, who injured his ankle badly last April, has started to play in domestic cricket with a cast around his ankle and is, as yet, unable to run sideways or stop and then take off for a run, according to MCA sources.

The only option left with the BCCI, in such a scenario, would be to have its own panel of doctors test both these players and see whether they have recovered fully from their injuries, it was made known.
