Wile Parliament remains stalled over the sacking of Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat -- both Houses were adjourned on Tuesday -- the controversy has got a new twist with the former Navy chief signing a 51-page affidavit, dated March 14, strongly criticising Defence Minister George Fernandes.
Kalmadi got Bhatia transferred -- Congress
The entire Opposition, led by leader of Opposition Madhukar Pichad, on Tuesday staged a noisy walkout to condemn the 'politically motivated' transfer of Pune Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia. Pichad alleged that Bhatia was transferred at the instance of Rajya Sabha Member Suresh Kalmadi.
Govt gives in to judge probing Staines case
The Centre has scrambled for cover, accepting most of the demands put forward by an angry Justice D P Wadhwa, who is heading the one-man inquiry commission into the Staines' murders. After consultations with the Finance Ministry, the Home Ministry has sanctioned a staff of 29 and 10 furnished rooms in the Vigyan Bhawan annexe.
