PUNE, April 7: Project exports from India have scaled a new high during 1998-99 with bids submitted for overseas projects with Exim Bank support touching Rs 16, 083 crore and contracts secured amounting to Rs 3307 crore.The number and value of bids submitted during 1998-99 were 155 and Rs 16083 crore as against 145 and Rs 12174 crore in 1997-98 registering an increase of 7 per cent by number and 32 per cent by value. Out of the bids submitted during 1998-99, 34 bids valued at Rs 3140 crore were for projects funded by multi-lateral agencies like World Bank, Oveseas Economic Co-operation Fund (OECF), Japan and Kuwait Fund for Economic Development.
Contracts secured under multilaterally funded projects overseas (MFPO) amount to 9 by number and Rs 641 crore by value. This represents an increase of 12 per cent by value over 1997-98. Out of the contracts secured during 1998-99, five contracts valued at Rs 175 crore were for construction projects, 23 contracts valued at Rs 1760 crore for turnkey projects, 21 contracts valued at Rs 396 crore for supply of contracts and 14 contracts valued at Rs 435 crore for consultancy contracts.
Out of the total 49 companies who submitted bids for project exports during 1998-99, 14 companies are in public sector and 35 companies in private sector. Eight public sector companies secured 35 contracts valued at Rs 2241 crore in countries as against 20 private sector who secured 38 contracts valued at Rs 1066 crore in 20 countries. New markets where the project exporters submitted bids include Greece, China, Palestine, Tunisia, Cayman Islands, Togo and Bhutan.
