CBI interrogates head of Swaminarayan sect in Ahmedabad

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, April 12: The Central Bureau of Investigation, looking into the sensational kidnap and presumed murder of Swami Gadadharanand of the Vadtal Swaminarayan Trust, is reported to have interrogated Acharya Ajendraprasad, head of the Swaminarayan sect. He is one of the main suspects named in the CBI FIR, the other three being Nautam Swami, Premswaroop Swami and Shrinarayan Shastry.

Vadtal trust sources said the Acharya was interrogated in Ahmedabad for several hours since Monday morning. His family members, when contacted at his mansion in Vadtal, maintained that a CBI team had visited their house on Sunday but said it was a courtesy visit. No interrogation had taken place during the day, they said. Other sources Express Newsline spoke to supported the statement that he had not been interrogated yesterday.

Sources said the Acharya left Vadtal about 9.30 a.m. on Monday for Ahmedabad for the interrogation. He had not returned till the time of going to press.

The CBI also contacted the Chief Executive Kothari of the Trust Bhaktikishoredas and asked him to present Ganshyam Swami, a temple functionary, for interrogation. The swami is convalescing at present at a Vadodara nursing home after undergoing an appendix operation. The chief kothari has conveyed this to the CBI and given a medical certificate, according to sources. Six accused in the case, including Shrinarayan Shastry, are under CBI remand, which expires on Tuesday, and would be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at Nadiad.

In the meantime, the CBI has reportedly been informed during the interrogation Swami Gadadharanand was first administered some sedatives mixed in a soft drink before his murder. His body was later thrown in a remote village.
