Woman burnt to death; watchman, mason killed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 12: Three murders have been reported in the Capital in the last 24 hours: Another housewife was burnt to death allegedly by her husband in Ashok Nagar yesterday, a watchman was stabbed to death in Jehangirpuri and a mason was killed, allegedly by two labourers in Samaipur Badli this morning.

In the first incident Puja (22) was set ablaze, allegedly by her husband Prithvi Singh in their home in Wazirpur village, Ashok Nagar. He was later arrested. According to the police, Puja's husband and five-year-old son also suffered burn injuries. The three were rushed to LNJP Hospital where Puja died last night. However, the condition of her husband and son is stable.

According to the police, Prithvi wanted Puja to accompany him to a relative's house. She apparently refused. In a fit of anger he allegedly threw kerosene on her and struck a match. However Prithvi later panicked and tried to save her, burning himself in the process.

In the second incident, a watchman in B-Block Jehangirpuri -- Sri Ram (60) -- was stabbed to death by unknown assailants. He was in charge of the security in the area. The police said that Sri Ram was stabbed five times in the chest and stomach. An injured Sri Ram was discovered in a pool of blood at around 3.30 a.m. and rushed to the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, where he subsequently died.

Meanwhile in Samaipur Badli, a mason -- Ram Sagar Das (40) -- was killed, allegedly by two labourers. Both the accused, aged about 20-22 years, have been arrested. The incident took place in a thread manufacturing factory. Das would sleep in one room in the godown, while the other room was shared by eight other men. According to the police, two of the labourers -- subsequently identified as Akhilesh and Sukh Ram -- forced Das to the terrace and then allegedly threw him off. They next allegedly smashed his head with some bricks. The incident took place at around 1.30 a.m. and the police say that the two probably killed Das for money.
