NEW DELHI, April 12: The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit today assured the House that action would be taken against a bureaucrat indicted for sexual harassment and child abuse in a inquiry conducted by the Delhi government. In a story based on the report, Express Newsline had pointed out that though the damning report had been submitted almost a week ago, the government had not taken any action against the official. ``I received the report only three days ago and appropriate action will be taken within two days,'' Dikshit said, and added, ``if we think it is necessary then we will even constitute a house committee to look into the matter.''
Raising the issue under special mention, the Leader of the Opposition, Jagdish Muhki alleged that the ``important report was gathering dust'' and demanded that the report be tabled in the House.
Refusing the demand, Dikshit said: ``This is an administrative report, so we do not have to place it in the House. We are, however, not hiding anything and no one is more concerned than us about the matter.''
Mukhi also demanded another inquiry into the financial irregularities in the Social Welfare Department. Dikshit went on to assure him that ``this report did not have as its terms of reference, an inquiry into the financial irregularities. But if the need arises we will conduct another inquiry into the financial issue.''
The report, submitted by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Connaught Place, indicts a superintendent of Social Welfare for sexual harassment of Anganwadi women workers and incidents of child abuse, when he was in charge of a juvenile home in Narela.
