Sharjah, April 12: Match referee for the Coca-Cola Cup One-day series Sidharth Wettimuny of Sri Lanka has fined the Indian team twice for their failure to bowl the required number of overs during their first two games against England, on April 9 and 11. Ten per cent of each players' match fee was cut for the April 9 game and 20 per cent for the next game. On both days, the game went 23 minutes beyond the scheduled time with the Indians bowling last.In addition, Venkatesh Prasad was fined 30 per cent of his match fee for breach of conduct of code 5 and 2 in the match against England yesterday. Prasad had reportedly abused Wells after getting his wicket. Wells had hit him for a six in the previous ball.
According to Rule 2, `Players and team officials shall not at any time engage in conduct unbecoming to an international player or team official which could bring them or the game into disrepute.'
Rule 5 meanwhile, says, `Players and team officials shall not use crude or abusive language -- known assledging -- nor make offensive gestures.
It was also clarified today that it was Prasad who was declared man of the match in the first game against England -- which India won by 20 runs -- and not Jadeja, as erroneously announced earlier.
