Digvijay to turn pro

Shona Manco
CHANDIGARH, April 12: Digvijay Singh, one of the top amateur golfers of the country, was much sort after when he was here to play tournament at the Chandigarh Golf Club. There were two reasons for that. First, he played consistent golf in the two championships spread over a week. Secondly, he admitted to turning professional. And in the coming months he will be seen rubbing his shoulders with the top Indian pro on the circuit.

``Most probably I will turn pro after two months,'' said the Meerut based golfer, who was obsessed with the greens and fairways a decade ago and is hopeful of playing a first major pro tournament on the Indian circuit in July. Digvijay who was one of the members of the Indian team which took part in the 13th Asian Games held in December last, was satisfied with his performance during the Chandigarh Open held here recently.

``I felt great after winning the title,'' said Digvijay, who played superlative golf and beat some of the best in the fray including Harmeet Kahlon.

Digvijay owes lot to his friend and city mate Jyoti Randhawa for helping him develop his skills. ``Jyoti is a good pal of mine. I always get some tips from him,'' disclosed Digvijay, whose biggest achievement of the career was when he was selected to represent the country in the Asian Games.

The Meerut-based golfer is still a bachelor. ``I haven't thought of tying a knot. Maybe after winning some big titles on the pro circuit,'' said the golfer with a tinkle in his eye.

Apart from golf, he is also found of outdoor activities. ``When I am not playing golf, I go for leisure''.
