April 15: Rajini Venugopal hit a fine century as Andhra Pradesh scored a comfortable 94-run win over Tamil Nadu in the first round of the Rev Katakshammaa memorial trophy all-India women's cricket tournament here today.
Batting first AP put up a fighting 208 for 6 in their stipulated 35 overs and then restricted Tamil Nadu to 114 for 8. Rajini was involved in a fruitful stand for the third wicket with Purnima Rau (50). Rajini's knock was studded with 15 fours.
Tamil Nadu never looked like achieving the target after they lost opener Hamswali (2) to medium pacer Suwarna Lakshmi. K Sunitha, an offie, struck three vital blows to seal every hope Tamil Nadu harboured.
Brief scores:Andhra Pradesh 206-6 in 35 overs (Rajini Venugopal 102 not out, Purnima Rau 50) bt Tamil Nadu 114-8 in 35 overs.
