President wants early polls
President K.R. Narayanan is said to be of the view that elections should be held as early as possible. He had conveyed this to the Chief Election Commissioner M.S. Gill and to various party leaders who have called on him in the last few days.

Pressure is building from the opposition parties to hold the general elections in September or early October after the completion of the ongoing revision of electoral rolls.
Tansi case -- Charges to be issued against Jaya
The Madras High Court has directed the special court to frame charges in the Tansi case in which has AIADMK chief Jayalalitha in the dock. The HC directive clears the way for Justice P Anbazhagan, Judge of Special Court-III.
