Double for Gavryl, Sagarika stuns Nalini

MUMBAI, MAY 8: There were three upsets in the five finals of the State Ranking Tennis tournament at the Andheri YMCA courts here today.

In the under-18 boys' section fifth seed Gavryl Fernandes, who had won the under-16 title too, defeated second Arpan Lakhani 6-4 6-2 while in the under-10 final, third seed Agnel Gladwin won 6-1 6-0 against Ankesh Bharghava.

The big upset in the girls section was the defeat of second seed Sagarika Phadke 7-5 6-3 6-3 by sixth seed Nalini Malaya.

Siddharth Chheda won the boys under-12 title beating Rohan Gide 6-2 6-1 while Roshni Luthra won 6-1 6-1 against unseeded Ayushi Sinha in the girls under-10 final.

Christopher dazzles

Christopher Marquis, the youngest player of the tournament, scored an impressive 7-0 victory over Sriram Iyer in the boys under-10 qualifying round of the Maharashtra State Ranking Junior tennis tournament, sponsored By Sansui & Sony Mony, at the Bhushan Tennis Academy.

Boys u-18 (qualifying round): Yogesh Sakpal btAniketh Gaskadvi 8-7 (7-3); Tariq Ansari bt Aniketh Pawanoji 8-7 (11-9); Alan Moses bt Aditya Raddi 8-3.

Boys u-14 (qualifying round): Someshwar Patel bt Vikrant Dhurandhar 7-3; Abhishek Wakankar bt Pratap Kaul 7-3; Nishant Mehta bt Amar Singh 7-2; Tushar Sharma bt Zaid Furniturwala 7-3; Prenal Joshi bt Siddharth Iyer 7-3.

Bagul slams century

Centuries by Sangram Bagul and Paul Valthaty and good bowling performances from Parag Madgaikar (5-19) were the highlights of thefirst-round league matches of the Kalpesh Govind Koli cricket tournament for the MCA summer under-16 camps, sponsored by Maharaj Fatesingrao Gaekwad Sports Foundation and organised by New Hind Sporting Club, at Matunga today.

Jagdale advances

Mahesh Jagdale (55) beat N D'Lima (50) 114-89, 110-90 in the third-round of the Sushil R Ruia Cup Open Handicap snooker tournament, sponsored by Selvel and Consultant, at the Matharpacady Club today.

In a second-round tie, A Yelve (50) defeated C Khan (60) 103-76, 117-96.

Chembur in final

Chembur and Andheri (West) entered the final of the fourth City & Suburbs hockey championship at the St Andrew's High School ground,, Bandra, today.

RESULTS
