Acquitted person aided in handling funds for killers

CHENNAI, MAY 13: Shanmugavadivelu, accused No 23 in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, the only person acquitted by the Supreme Court of all the charges framed against him by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), was aiding members of the conspiracy handle money.

He was keeping the funds given by Sivarasan for meeting the expenditure of the members of the conspiracy and distributing it to them. He was also converting the gold smuggled out from Jaffna, into cash.

Also known as Thambi Anna, Shanmugavadivelu, is a Sri Lankan Tamil and an active supporter of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

According to the charge-sheet, Shanmugavadivelu was closely associated with Sivarasan and Santhan.
