Sonia quits as Congress president Sonia Gandhi today tendered her resignation as Congress president to the party's Working Committee, which was, however, turned down by the CWC.She left the meeting of the CWC after submitting the resignation letter. Sonia told the meeting that if they did not have faith in her leadership she was tendering her resignation. The CWC meeting has been convened to discuss the letter written by Sharad Pawar, P. A. Sangma and Tariq Anwar seeking constitutional amendments to ensure that citizens born in India alone should be qualified to hold the posts of the president, vice-president and prime minister.Sharad Pawar sets out for long, hard battle Having thrown his hat into the ring yesterday, Sharad Pawar, the man who is known for half-measures, today gave ample indication that he was prepared to do battle. He parked himself in Mumbai, declined to attend the Congress Working Committee meeting re-scheduled to accommodate his arrival in New Delhi, produced Sudhakarrao Naik - a bitter rival - as proof of wider support for his stand, met a steady stream of supporters and brain-stormed with trusted lieutenants on his future course of action.
