PUNE, May 27: The Made in India girl was in town. Teaming up for the second time with the Indipop Guru Biddu, Alisha Chinai who has ruled the Indipop scene for over a decade, has struck back with her second album, Dil Ki Rani, which she described as an effort to reach out to her young fans.
The pop singer was in the city as part of the Dil Ki Rani contest organised by Pepsi and Virgin records in six cities to promote the new album which was launched in the last week of March. Preferring to describe herself as a daydreamer, the pop diva felt that the album was versatile ranging from westernised dance tracks to qawwalis to nostalgic romantic numbers. The first video from the album is for Vah Vah, a quasi qawwali shot by debutante music video director and daughter of film maker Ramesh Sippy - Sonya Sippy.
``I love Pune, especially the food,'' she declared. Admitting that she was a romantic at heart, Chinai felt that her previous number Om was very serious and therefore titled the new album Dil Ki Rani to reach out to her fans. Her first album Made in India had sold three million copies. Alisha, however, admitted that it would be difficult to match this effort, but believed that the album would do well. The pop singer is in the city to have dinner with the four winners of the contest. She will also visit a few youth hang-outs in the city - Black Cadillac, 1000 Oaks, Music bank and the new Go-Karting track, Mazkart.
