Chandigarh, June 8: The office-bearers of the Haryana Students' Association (HSA) today threatened to approach the Chancellor and seek removal of the Punjab University Vice-Chancellor unless the meeting of the Syndicate is convened within a month and issues pertaining to the new fee structure and the appointment of deans are settled.
At a press conference at the PU, HSA president Bhupinder Singh Bhuppi stated that the students were suffering due to the differnces between the Syndicate and the V-C. "The V-C is trying to protect the 19 superannuated officials that the Syndicate decided to remove and because of this important matters pertaining to students are being delayed," Bhupi stated. He added that unless the V-C convened the Syndicate meeting soon, the association would launch "a full-fledged campaign against him".
He added that though the last date for submission of examination forms for the next session was July 1, no decision had been taken on the fees. HSA chairman Chand Singh Madan said that the association was seeking an appointment with the university Chancellor in New Delhi "at the earliest".
He said that the V-C should respect the majority's decision and in case their demands were not fulfilled the campaign could range from hunger-strikes to "seeking the V-C's ouster".
Madan also demanded that the university should compensate students for the numerous cases of out-of-syllabi question papers and that the semester system be introduced in the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) course.
