Kargil will affect poll results, says Sena leader

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, JUNE 30: Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray said that he was worried about the fate of the forthcoming parliamentary polls in view of the war-like situation in Kashmir, here on Tuesday.

Due to the present war-like situation in Kargil, there was a possibility of the Lok Sabha polls being held together with the assembly polls early next year, he said. At the same time, he denied any possibility of imposition of an emergency in the country as this may lead to further panic among people.

According to Thackeray, the Sena chief's prediction that the fall of the Vajpayee government may invite trouble for the country, which were ignored by parliamentarians then, has proved true.

The ISI's increased involvement in killings, riots and explosions after the Kargil situation has been proved beyond doubt, Thackeray said, adding that in such circumstances the decision to hold polls in the country should be taken judiciously.

Commenting on the political scenario in the state, Thackeray, outrightly rejected thepossibility of a poll adjustment between Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

He dismissed rumours to this effect as an attempt by the opposition parties to create dissent in the BJP-Sena alliance.
