CHANDIGARH, JULY 11: Head Constable Surinder Singh, who allegedly fired two shots at a local advocate, Mansoor Ali, residing in Sector 20, last evening, was produced before a city court here and was remanded to judicial custody till July 25.The accused, who was arrested here for attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and illegal use of service pistol, was produced in the court of Duty Magistrate H.S. Madaan today. As all the recoveries had already been effected, police remand of the accused was not sought. Surinder Singh was reportedly in uniform and intoxicated when he went to the residence of the advocate and asked for a glass of water. When the servant went to get water, Surinder entered the advocate's office, started abusing police officials and asked the advocate's munshi and peon to leave. Without any provocation, he asked the advocate to "raise his hands". When Singh aimed the pistol at Ali and put his finger at the trigger, Ali dived forward and pushed the gun away.
Four convicted for criminal intimidation
A city court here held four people guilty of causing injury to a student of Central Polytechnic and also for criminal intimidation.
Convicting the accused, Gurpreet Singh, Satnam Singh, Bhupinder Singh and Gurtej Singh under Sections 452, 506, 325, 323 and 34 IPC, UT Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate H.S. Madaan convicted them and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years.
The accused were also directed to pay a fine of Rs 500 or else undergo further RI for a period of three months.
On the complaint of Kuldeep Singh, the case under Sections 325, 452, 506 and 34 IPC was registered against the accused on June 28, 1996.
The complainant had stated that he was a student of Central Polytechnic while Gurpreet and Satnam were former students and had passed out. He said when he was staying in the hostel, the above-mentioned accused used to come there and stay illegally. The complainant stated that he objected to their coming and staying there.
He further alleged that on June 28, 1995 someone knocked at his door in the evening. When he opened the door, Gurpreet, without any provocation, hit him on his forehead with a kirpan-like weapon. On being injured, the complainant ran out of the room. Satnam hit him on his back with some iron weapon and the other co-accused also hit the complainant.
During the course of proceedings, the prosecution examined various witnesses and the Magistrate observed that the guilt had been proved beyond doubt.
Two year RI for four fraud convicts
Four persons were convicted by a city court for having played fraud with a local fruit seller and sold a consignment of 579 apples booked by him elsewhere, instead of the destination.
Allegations against Tarsem Puri, Saudagar Singh, Jaspal Chand and Subhash Kumar were that they conspired to sell an apple consignment and divided the sales proceedings amongst themselves. Holding the accused guilty, city Additional CJM sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and pay a fine of Rs 500. In case of default of payment of fine, the accused were directed to undergo further imprisonment for a period of three months. The accused were sentenced to imprisonment under Sections 407, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B IPC.
The prosecution stated that complainant Jagdish was into the business of fruit selling at the local vegetable market in Sector 26. On August 21, 1994 he purchased 579 boxes of apples and hired a truck owned by accused Tarsem Lal for delivering the consignment in Benaras. It was, however, alleged that when enquiries were made on August 24, it was found that the said consignment did not reach its destination. The complainant apprehended that Tarsem, along with Jaspal, cleaner of the truck, sold the consignment and divided the proceedings.
One Lal Chand was also found to have been involved in the case and it was proved that he forged group receipt number 309, dated August 24, 1994 of New All India Roadways for selling 579 boxes in Bihar.
