Ae mere pyare vatan... fills Tagore Theatre with patriotism

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, JULY 11: With the tricolour, a lamp lit in front of the Bharat Mata and the mountains as the backdrop, songs of patriotic zeal flowed from the stage and the packed hall responded with rhythmic claps. Brig Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, the hero of the Longewala Battle during the 1971 war, who graced the occasion, pointed out rightly, "Kargil has made the people realise the worth of soldiers."

For it was in salutation of the heroes and to collect money for the Army Central Welfare Fund that the musical evening was arranged by the Payal Musical Club and the Build India Group, at the Tagore Theatre. And the packed hall responded in tune with the prevailing mood of the country, enthusiastically and with a warmth never before witnessed. So when N.S. Vardhan sang Ae mere pyare vatan... some from the audience accompanied him with Tujh pe dil qurban.... And when Amarjeet rendered Hai preet jahan ki reet sada..., each line was made as rhythmic by the claps, as by the instruments.
