Two cable operators arrested in city

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 11: Two private cable operators, Dilipbhai Kanubhai Patel and Prashant Madhusudan Patel, were arrested by J P Road police on Sunday for violating the 1957 Copyrights Act.

According to the police, Vihar talkies proprietor Ishwar Suryavanshi lodged a complaint saying that the two had been showing the film `Hum Dil De Chuke Hain' without permission.

Suryavanshi said he was the only person authorised to show the film in Vadodara. Moreover, video cassettes of the film had yet not been launched and hence it also amounted to video piracy, he added.

Suryavanshi said that screening of the Aishwarya Rai film on cable had been affecting business in his theatre because people from the areas where it was shown on the cable did not come to the cinema hall.

While the first accused supplied cable connections in Chikuwadi, the other serviced the Raj Mahal road area. This was the first time in Vadodara that a cinema hall owner had gone to the police over video piracy.
