SGU English dept holds workshop
Teachers of the English Department of South Gujarat University's K P Commerce College organised a two-day workshop on English literature from 12.30 pm on July 10. English language classics were displayed at the exhibition which remained open from 11 a.m to 7 p.m.

Jawan relief
Three lakh employees of the Gujarat Rajya Panchayat Karmachari Mahasangh has decided to give one day's salary to the jawan relief fund. Rs 7 crores will be handed over to state chief minister Keshubhai Patel.

Collector's plea
Collector Sangeeta Singh has exhorted non-governmental agencies to come forward to eradicate leprosy. Inaugurating a Leprosy Counselling centre at the New Civil hospital, she said as many 1200 leprosy patients in the state were operated upon between January and April. Municipal Commissioner Guru Prasad Mohapatra was chief guest at the function.

Bar decision
The Bardoli Bar Association, in a unanimous decision taken on Saturday, has decided that no lawyer from the Association will defend Asif Shaikh, a school teacher who reportedly made anti-national statements while teaching a class in Kachrelia village of Navsari district a few days ago. Shaikh was arrested and produced before a magistrate in Bardoli.

Donated
All India Educational and Medical Welfare trust, a city-based charitable organisation, has donated Rs 1.51 lakhs for the surgery of a needy 10-year old city boy. A release issued here said that the cheque was handed over at a function on Sunday by organisation president Kanhaiyalal Suratwala to the father of Bindesh Sawani, who needs to undergo a bone marrow transplant.

Yagna
The city-based Gayatri Parivar held a yagna at Varachha Road on Sunday as a mark of remembrance for the Kargil martyrs. The yagna began at 8 am and continued until 5 pm, a Gayatri Parivar release issued here said.
