Tennis-ball cricket for UT schools

CHANDIGARH, Aug 2: Fourteen schools have confirmed their participation in the Sova Inter-School Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament to be held at St Anne's Convent School ground from August 9, according to organising secretary Arun Luthra.

Those who have confirmed their entries are: St Anne's Convent School-32, St Stephen's School-45, Shivalik Public School-41, Sanjay Public School-44, Air Force School 12 Wing, Christ High School-9, St Joseph's High School-9, Govenment Model Senior Secondary School-20 D, Mount Carmel School-46, New Public School-18, KB DAV Centenary Public School-7, AKS International Public School-41, Government Model Senior Secondary School-33 and Manav Mangal School- Sector 11 Panchkula.

The tournament will be played on knockout basis with tennis cricket ball. Three matches will be held every day, with the first match starting at 8.30 a.m.

The organisers have directed the schools to send the list of their players along with date of birth certificates, class and photographs duly signed and stamped by the principals before August 5 to Arun Luthra, 3157, Sector 46 C, Chandigarh.

Arun Luthra said that the Chandigarh teams will also take part in the forthcoming national (junior, sub-junior and seniors) tournaments.

Meanwhile, in Gorakhpur the Indian Tennis Ball Cricket Association secretary Anis Ahmad Lari has released the calendar of various tournaments for the year 1999-2000 in Gorakhpur.

The 4th Sub-Junior and National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship (for boys and girls) will be held in Kanpur from October 9-12. The 10th Senior National Championship (for men and women) will be held in Nagpur from November 27 -30.

The 2nd International India Gold Cup Tournament will be organised at Gorakhpur from January 23-30 next year. Bangladesh, Nepal, Hong Kong, Thailand and India would participate.

An international cash prize money tournament will be organised at Bareilly from February 25 next. It would be played under floodlights and the prize money in men's section will be Rs one lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 for the winners first runners -up and second runners-up.

In women's section the prize money will be Rs 50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000.
