Mongia takes Azhar route, rules self out

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, AUG 5: Indian wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia joined former Indian skipper Mohd Azharuddin on the injury list thus ruling himself out for the Sri Lanka and Singapore tours. The Vadodara stumper, who was injured during India's match against Kenya of the World Cup in England, is yet to recover fully from a hairline crack passing through the wrist joint of his left hand which was detected through a bone scan late last month.

Mongia submitted a medical certificate to general secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jaywant Y Lele on eve of the selection committee meeting on Friday.

Lele talking to The Indian Express said that Mongia is not fully fit from the injury. ``Mongia is only 75 per cent fit,'' he stated.

Meanwhile when Mongia was contacted said that the crack behind his little finger have not healed completely. "Callus developed in that area, and the doctor have told me that I will be fully fit by August end if I rest," he added.

According to him, Dr Prithvipal Chabbariastates that the fracture was not diagnosed properly earlier. The ace stumper said that 10 days ago he had undergone scanning and x-ray.
