My Choice / My favourite time of the day

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
The part of the day I like the most is early morning. At this time, everything is fresh and free from pollution.

I am an early riser. I love the beauty of nature in the morning. What I love most is the chirping of birds. Their melodious singing is enchanting. They seem to welcome the sun with their sweet notes. I like to sit in my garden in the morning for at least ten minutes. The very sight and smell of beautiful flowers cheers me up. Small dew drops on the petals and leaves look like precious pearls, whose very sight pleases my eyes. I meditate there for for a while, forgetting the hustle and bustle of daily life as I escape my worries for a while. I feel a new strength injected into my tired body. I feel some new sense of joy as I relax while listening to the silence around me.

Rising early in the morning is a good habit. Even when I feel like sleeping I force myself to get up and enjoy the morning. When I study at night nothing goes into my head, but if I study in the morning, I surprisingly manage to learn everything in a jiffy. That is why, I like the morning more than any other part of the day.

My favourite time of the day is after a day's work at school, when I arrive home and share the next few moments with my mother. The six hours of school, the half an hour of cycling wherein I re-live the happenings of the past few hours, the behaviour of my classmates and then the tension of the next day's test can be very energy sapping.

In this mind-numbing situation, where anyone can be on the edge, anytime of the day, due to the vagaries of their temperament, the smile on my mother's face as I open the door, curtails half my frustrations. The rest is done by the movements of her soft hand over my back.

During this time, even the minutest of confusions are washed off by her care and love. Her concern and care refreshes me and removes all doubts from my brain, fortifying me for further work. Her zest in asking me about what I did in school, highlights her concern and makes me want to respond in kind.

Although this scene lasts for just a couple of minutes and is a daily routine, it actually recharges and refreshes me.

In other words, these couple of minutes are the force behind the next 24 hours, and I eagerly await this time of the day.

Nature plays an important role in our life. In every part of life we thank nature, knowingly or unknowingly. Therefore, my favourite time is in the morning when the sun rises. It is so beautiful to see the sun lift its head high and give a long smile stretching its golden, string like rays.

I love to see the birds leave their babies in the nest under the security of the sun. The new flowers which rise high greet the sun, with beautiful make-up colours, done by mother nature. All insects seem happy and gay to welcome their day. Even human beings seem ready to start their routine tasks as they begin their day. Many people are of the opinion that if the day does not have a good start, then it will be so till it ends also. This is how people get busy about their affairs and forget the cheerful morning which greets everyone all the same.

It is however, very different in the villages where people have the time to admire the sun's morning beauty. I really admire this time of the morning each day. I think it is only in our hands to take the time to admire and experience this time every morning.

My favourite time of the day is when I'm out gardening. It gives me great pleasure to continue with the routine tasks of digging, weeding, pruning and cutting. Besides being good excercise, it also teaches one the dignity of labour. I like to do a spot of gardening, as a form of excercise in the evening after sitting for the whole day in school.

Many great men like Winston Churchil, President Kenedy and Jawaharlal Nehru have been keen gardeners. Gardening relieves tension, worries and mental weakness and provides for much relaxation and joy. When I'm gardening, the fresh and fragrant air in the garden, is always healthy, inspiring, long lasting and beneficial. That's why I look forward to gardening as my favourite time of the day.
